SINCE the last report in the middle of December, 199 games have been postponed due to the bad weather. This week all games on Cwmbran pitches were called off, leaving twenty-five matches on Newport and Caerphilly pitches.

The top four teams in the Premier X didn’t play, which left K-2 to move up into fifth spot, with a 2-0 win over Machen FC at Tredegar Park. Jerome Maynard and Abid Khan got the goals. Two goals from Lewis Pontin and Robert Stock gave Cwmcarn Athletic a 2-1 win against Tredegar Arms. Shaftesbury Youth completely dominated bottom club Henllys Rangers, running out 6-0 winners. Ryan Howells (3), Gary Powell (2) and Rhys Erickson scored. Pill Hibernians failed to field a team against Graig-Y-Rhacca.

Albion Rovers continued their dominance of Premier Y, with a 4-0 win away at Rogerstone. Jermaine Poole (2), Danny Carey and Steve Lawrence got the goals. Second placed AC Pontymister was held to a 2-2 draw by bottom club Newport Corinthians. Two goals each from Luke Hutchinson and David Doody, gave Pill AFC a 4-2 win over Cwmbran Celtic. The only other game in the division was a thriller. Trethomas Bluebirds managed to edge out Lucas Cwmbran 6-5, with goals from Matthew Jones (3), Lee Ferris (2) and Alan Griffiths.

Division One leaders Pontnewydd United gave fifth placed Bettws Social Club a 13-0 hammering, with goals from Sheldon Williams (4), John Forward (2), Phil Jarman (2), Chris Herrin, Andrew Telfer, Dean Thompson, Jack Hughes and David James. Lliswerry held on to third place, after a 3-2 win over Marshfield. Dimitri Lekkas, Jim Watson and Chris Jarvis scored. CCYP AFC gained an easy 8-0 win against bottom club Caerleon Town. A hat-trick each from Adam Jones and Michael Dixon, gave Ponthir a 6-4 win against Ty-Sign AFC. The Six in Hand lived up to their name winning 6-2 away at Sporting Baneswell Social. Scorers were Michael Morrison (3), Dale Price, Jason Bullimore and John Lewis. The battle for the Division Two title became no clearer after second placed Waterfront United beat leaders Oakfield Inn 1-0.

This left Oakfield hanging on to the top spot level on points, with a goal difference of plus five. Third placed Cwmcarn Athletic went down 6-2 away to Cwmbran Celtic. Racing Club Newport and Graig-Y-Rhacca shared the points in an entertaining 4-4 draw. Marshfield won 4-2 against Bettws Social Club. Meanwhile, eight goals from Mark Poole (2), Lee Souter (2), Sean Clarke, Mark Sharland, Rhys Luffman and Paul White, gave Lliswerry an 8-2 win over Newport Eagles. Cromwell Youth gained a 5-0 win over second from bottom Rogerstone.

In Division Three, the leaders St Julians AFC retain their hundred percent record after eleven played. They won 12-1 at home to Lucas Cwmbran, with goals from Dale Crawley (4), Billy Jordan (2), Callum Jones, Alex Griffiths, Scott Humphries, Mark Francis, Matthew Rees, plus an own goal.

Four goals from David Robertson (2) Luke Broom and Kieron Donovan, gave Gaer Park Rangers a 4-3 win against the Ferns AFC. Pill Hibernians managed to gain a 7-0 win over Albion Rovers, moving up to second place in the division.

Sunday League Pavilions remain top of the Sunday League.

The Docks Cons moved into second place with a 5-0 win over Real Bettws, with goals from Gareth Pardue (2), Dominic Halpin, Adam Chambers and Craig Maggs. Bettws Social AFC won 6-2 away to Rogerstone United. St Julians Old Boys won 2-1 at Kwik-Kleen AFC. Athletico Allsorts and Whitehead Haymakers shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

Amateur Cup The third round of the Gwent County Football Association John Payne Amateur Cup was finally completed on Saturday. The shock of the round was the defeat of the County league division one side Abercarn United, by the Gwent Central district side Trevethin. Abercarn put in a lacklustre performance, but this took nothing away from Trevethin, who fought tooth and nail for the victory. Coed Eva Athletic reversed their fixture with Abergavenny Thursdays, as a result of the bad weather. This made no difference to the Athletic, as they ran out 5-0 winners. The match of the day was the clash between Cwmffrwdoer Sports and P.I.L.C.S.

Drawing 3-3 after extra time, Cwmffrwdoer Sports finally took the tie 4-3 on penalites. Tranch came out 2-1 winners away to Whiteheads. Ponthir and Cefn Forest went to penalties, with Ponthir winning the shootout 3-2. Govilon showed their class, with a 3-0 away win against Trinant.
