SORT it out - that is the message today from Welsh Rugby Union group chief executive David Moffett Gwent chief executive David Jenkins and coach Mike Ruddock.

Newport and Ebbw Vale have been on a virtual war footing over the past few weeks, with Newport claiming their rivals have virtually taken over the running of the new region and that they disagree on every major issue.

Newport chairman David Watkins also launched a personal attack on Vale counterpart Marcus Russell. Moffett told the Argus: "In my view the continuing public discussion of these issues is a disgrace and should cease immediately.

"I think the comments made by David Watkins in particular are both unhelpful and dangerous.

"I have again offered our services to help to mediate if they should be required.

"Time is running out and they need to resolve their differences coolly and calmly and remember why we are where we are -- the clubs agreed to go to five regions, so let's get on with it."

Jenkins, formerly chief executive of Bath and Cardiff, is one of two executive officers appointed to run Gwent Rugby Limited, the other being Ruddock.

"I am trying to broker some harmony and am also trying to move this forward," he said.

"We have got a product, and we have got to get it commercially resolved. I'm fairly confident, so let's get the issues resolved so that we can move forward."

Ruddock met with the Gwent players at Newport last night, and says the outcome was positive.

"I had a very positive meeting with the players, and we outlined our training programme. They are all very excited about playing in the Celtic League, Celtic Cup and European Cup fixtures and representing Gwent," he said.

"I also met with the top 50 Gwent club coaches at Usk on Sunday and outlined plans for a Gwent trial in August for the premier club players in order to run a reserve or development pool in case of injury.

"The club coaches are going to nominate players for the trial, with the WRU involved, and a number of coaches will help prepare the trial teams under WRU coach education managers.

"I am also looking for a coach to run our development or reserve team. Everyone is comfortable with all that and are now putting together trial teams and coaches for the Gwent foundation."
