DO you know someone in Newport who goes above and beyond to help others?

Do you have a neighbour who works tirelessly to help out at a local youth club or an inspirational parent?

If so, then the Kings Church, Newport wants to hear from you.

The church has teamed up with the Argus to find those characters in the city that deserve to be recognised to bring you the Newport Night of Honour awards.

The ceremony will honour those in our community that deserve our praise, but its down to you to help us find them.

Categories include: Best Neighbour - someone that always does a good deed for you and who will go out of their way to help; Young Person of the Year - a child or teenager that has made a difference to their school, activity group or community; Hero of the Year - an extra special person that has done something absolutely amazing this year; Parents of the Year - someone under-appreciated but never forgotten; Business of the Year - a business or company in Newport that has stood out to you; Community Organisation of the Year - an organisation that pours itself into the community.

Organisers of the awards Hayley Corley and Heath van Staden can't wait to get your entries in.

Hayley Corley said: "Kings Church are absolutely delighted to be hosting Newport's Night of Honour.

"This event belongs to the people of our city and we would love you to get involved by nominating your hero."

All you have to do to nominate someone is fill out the form in today's Argus and send it to Night of Honour, King's Centre, 71 Lower Dock Street, Newport, NP20 1EH.

The winners will be presented with awards at a ceremony on Friday, September 10 at the King's Centre. Special guests for the event will be comedian Bobby Ball and social commentator Mal Fletcher, who will also be guest speaker.

The ceremony is part of a two-day event in September being hosted by the church.

On Thursday, September 9, social commentator Mal Flecher will be giving a seminar entitled 'Ahead of the Curve - Leadership for the Digital Age'.

Mr Fletcher, who is an internationally renowned commentator, leadership and mentor, will be giving a talk addressing the question of what kind of city do the people of Newport want to be living in in 10 years.

Heath van Staden said: "This morning of seminar’s is open to business and civic leaders, as well as those working in the voluntary, statutory and public sectors. Please don’t let this opportunity pass you by."

The seminar runs from 9.30am to 12pm at the King's Centre, Lower Dock Street, Newport.
