AROUND 30 women dressed in pink and took part in a walk through Newport city centre on Saturday to demonstrate their support to the fight against breast cancer.

The group led by cancer patient Jane Donovan, 49, of Corporation Road, started at John Frost Square at 12 noon before making their way down High Street, through the Kingsway Centre and ending back where they started.

Supporters handed out leaflets and spoke to people about the disease in a bid to raise awareness and help launch Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer awareness and fundraising campaign “Join the fight for women’s survival” which starts next month.

Mrs Donovan was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 after finding a lump in her breast and although tests proved it was benign a mammogram found three other tumours.

The Magor Wilkinsons warehouse worker underwent an operation to remove it three weeks later before being treated with radiotherapy in January 2006.

She is now hoping to get the all clear in November.

The grandmother-of-two said everyone the group met on the walk was supportive and she was pleased with the turnout.
