THE error by HM Revenue & Customs over our taxes had rightly caused anger.

Nearly six million of us have either under or overpaid tax over the past two years.

For some, it will be good news but 1.5 million people now face having to fork out nearly £1,500 each over a year.

Quite how this problem went unnoticed is beyond us.

What it has highlighted is that the HMRC needs to improve its system radically to ensure huge blunders like this never happen again.

It should also ensure that it helps those who suddenly face forking out more than £100 per month extra in tax next year and may not be able to afford it.
