DARING fundraisers took part in a charity abseil on Sunday in aid of the Severn Area Rescue Association.
Tom Copsey and Gary Taylor, who work in the advertising department for the Argus’ sister paper the Free Press, joined Chepstow mayor Marian Lewis, for the 200ft challenge hosted by The National Diving and Activity Centre in the town.
A total of 38 participants descended from the top of a quarry over a deep lake and onto a floating pontoon below.
Mr Copsey, 24, said: “It was terrifying. The hardest part was getting over the edge to get your balance right and prepare yourself.
“It wasn’t so bad going down, half way down I started enjoying it.”
The pair have so far raised around £500 between them and organisers estimate a total of around £8,000 was raised from Sunday’s event.
The money will help to buy a replacement lifeboat, which is part of a fleet stationed at Beachley rescue centre.
The Free Press already helped to raise £7,563 towards SARA’s £17,5000 target.
