VETERAN entertainer Bruce Forsyth will take to the greens in Newport for the star-studded All Star Cup golf tournament, it was announced yesterday.

The 76-year-old former Generation Game host was named in the line-up for the second All Star Cup being held at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Brucie' will play in Colin Montgomerie's European team, alongside celebrities from the worlds of television, music, modelling and sport.

Golf-mad Forsyth, who was awarded the CBE this year, has already been dubbed the "Golf-Father" by his teammates.

He said: "Maybe I should be angry at that? But as I've admitted playing for 60 years I'll be the Golf Father, I'm mean enough!"

Team Europe beat Team USA in last year's tournament, and Bruce said he wants to help them life the cup again.

He said: "I will physically be sick and heartbroken if we lose. I think we did a wonderful job last year, but if we can retain it nobody will be happier than the Golf Father."

Joining Bruce in Team Europe are: media mogul Chris Evans, former football star Ruud Gullit, singer Ronan Keating, former Eastenders star Ross Kemp, model Jodie Kidd, actor Damien Lewis, Cold Feet star James Nesbitt, former cricketer Phil Tufnell, Coronation Street actor Bradley Walsh, and former footballer Ian Wright.

Actor Samuel L Jackson and rocker Alice Cooper are expected play for Team USA in the tournament, which is the brainchild of Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both keen golfers.

Europe team captain Colin Montgomerie said: "I'm delighted and very proud to be captaining the European team again and I am looking forward to returning to Wales to defend our trophy."

The tournament will be screened on ITV1 and 2 Coverage will start on Saturday August 26 with practice sessions and the unveiling of the Americans, who are being kept secret.
