A CWMBRAN man is helping to raise awareness for a mobile cancer support unit, after the service helped care for his fiancée.

Linda Imm, of Cwrt Bleddyn, Two Locks, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in April 2007 and underwent an operation to remove part of her bowel and six months of chemotherapy. In June 2009, she received the devastating news that the cancer had spread to her lungs.

Miss Imm received treatment in hospital, but also received treatment at the Tenovus Mobile Cancer Support Unit near her home.

Her fiancée, Alan Dimery, was by her side throughout her treatment and was so impressed by the mobile facility that he decided to do something to raise awareness.

Mr Dimery, 56, said: "I first visited the mobile unit as a carer for Linda. As I was looking around, I became curious about how the unit transformed. I have a skill in computer animation and the more I studied the unit the more I became interested in the possibility of doing an animation of the transformation."

Using his skills as a computer animator, Mr Dimery came up with an animation showing what the unit can do for others.

While discussing a soundtrack for the piece with Tenovus, 'Driven by You' by Queen guitarist Brian May was suggested. After three months, the project was finished and the go ahead was received from Mr May and his record company EMI.

Mr Dimery said: "Tenovus and their incredible mobile unit has given us something to focus on. It is a marvellous conception. It is like being treated privately in one large happy family, both patients and carers from all walks of life brought together by rather scary circumstances.

"I sincerely hope this animation helps in raising the awareness of this fabulous unit."

Miss Imm has also started her own 'Friends of Tenovus' group in Torfaen, which raised £445.16 in its first event.
