A NURSE who works at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital saw her husband leap with their two children from a fourth floor hotel balcony, killing their six year old son.

The 32-year-old man, John Hogan, was charged with murder and attempted murder on the Greek island of Crete after the incident, which happened at around midnight on Tuesday.

It was confirmed today that his wife Natasha Hogan, 34, works in the accident and emergency department at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.

It was reported that she told police they had been arguing before the incident.

Their son, Liam, six, was taken to hospital in the resort of Ierapetra with massive head and internal injuries, but pronounced dead two hours later.

Their two-year-old daughter Mia survived the fall with a broken arm, according to a hospital spokesman.

A spokesman for the Royal Gwent said today that staff at the hospital were shocked by what had happened. "Natasha Hogan is a Deputy Sister in the Royal Gwent Hospital Accident & Emergency Department. She has worked here for the past two years," he said. "This is a dreadful tragedy and staff are shocked and saddened to hear this news.The couple were described as "model parents" by shocked neighbours at their home in Bradley Stoke, Bristol.

Mr Hogan owns a Bristol-based tiling business, Ultimate Tile Design.

He is being kept under armed guard in hospital, where he is being treated for a broken leg and arm.

The incident occurred at the luxury Petra Mare Hotel, a 227-bedroom four star beachfront hotel in Ierapetra, a popular holiday destination in the south of the island.
