A KEY witness told police a man accused of murdering a Newport dad over drugs is violent ‘to anybody and everybody’, a court heard yesterday.

In a written statement, Timothy Burrows also said he felt intimidated by Karl Drummond and “always tried to stay on his right side”.

Caerphilly men Drummond, 36, of Attlee Court, George Glover, 39, of Graham Court, and Shahid Rafiq, 36, of Brynyr- Ysgol, all deny murdering and conspiring to rob Tony Singh last November after the trio gave £100 to another man for heroin which turned out to be beef powder.

Mr Burrows is Glover’s business partner and also has a child with Drummond’s current girlfriend, Nina Sayer.

He was with Ms Sayer at Drummond’s flat while Drummond, accompanied by Rafiq and Glover, allegedly hit Mr Singh around the head with a metal bar near Newport Law Courts and robbed him of his wallet and mobile phone.

But, speaking at Newport Crown Court yesterday, Mr Burrows denied making the comments.

He said he was suffering heroin withdrawal at the time and recalled nothing of his police interview.

Continuing the prosecution opening, prosecutor Paul Lewis suggested Mr Burrows was “scared to death” of testifying against Drummond, but Mr Burrows denied this too.

His statement, made 13 days after the incident, also said Drummond took a metal bar from his flat “in order to threaten violence and get our money back”.

But at all times Mr Burrows denied any memory of making the statement, and said medication administered to alleviate his symptoms during custody had left him “totally confused by it all”.

Jurors previously heard DNA matching Mr Singh’s was found on a metal bar recovered from Drummond’s home.
