PUPILS at a Gwent primary school, which has supported Macmillan cancer charity for the past five years, helped launch its annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this week.

The pupils of Undy Primary School and Crumlin-based bakery Brace’s which is backing the event, are encouraging schools in the area to register to hold their own coffee morning on September 30.

They are also asking pupils to get their chef hats on and come up with a new flavour Welsh cake or bread, or even come up with a new product which Brace’s may consider creating.

All entries for the competition must be submitted by October 21. Details are available at bracesbakery.co.uk The winning school will be presented with £100 prize money, including a tour of the bakery and goody bags.

They will also get the chance to meet Commonwealth Gold medalwinning boxer Jamie Arthur, who is an ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support in South East Wales.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager, Paula Langston, said the competition was a great opportunity for students to experience their first coffee morning, learn more about Macmillan, have fun inventing new products for Brace’s, and raise vital funds for local people affected by cancer. And it’s not just schools that can take part – anyone wishing to hold a coffee event in aid of the charity should go to macmillan. org.uk/worldsbiggestcof feemorning
