THE family of Newport's John Sicolo are bringing his legendary nightclub back to life for one day only in his memory.
The magic of TJ’s, which promoted the UK’s hottest bands in its day, will be revived as the final float at Pill Carnival on August 29.
The venue’s legendary bar, stage and famous concrete tree will be recreated.
Mr Sicolo died suddenly following a knee operation in March 2010. Before then he gave upcoming acts like Oasis, the Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream a spot where others sometimes didn’t, his daughter Leanne Jones said, and that is why he needs to be remembered.
"TJ’s was loved by a lot of people and a lot went there to see my father, but also to have a good night," Mrs Jones, 42, said.
"He put Newport on the map as far as the music scene is concerned."
City residents helped VOICE magazine organise a one-day festival at John Frost Square in Mr Sicolo’s memory after he died last year, while the club itself sadly closed.
Now Mrs Jones, her children, and her mother Vivienne Sicolo want to pay their own tribute to the 66-year-old.
More than 10 motorcyclists, some of whom also followed the Mr Sicolo’s funeral hearse, will also precede the float while Battle of the Bands winners Counterhold play a rock set throughout the 30 minute parade.
Friends and family including his grandchildren Paul, Kristie, Ashley and Lauren, will also be on board, while Mrs Jones said she was very thankful to Pill Carnival for the opportunity.
"Dad had a lot of friends who loved and respected him - and they miss him too," she said.
