A NEWPORT-BASED charity group is the star of a Channel 5 programme being aired tonight.

The South Gwent Breast Cancer Support group appear in tonight’s Celebrity Wish List, which sees different celebrities surprise and help out some of the nation’s unsung heroes.

Two of the founders of the charity, Doreen Smith and Glenda Lewis, were surprised by actress Terri Dwyer at the beginning of September at Cwmbran’s Best Western Parkway hotel.

Ms Dwyer, who lost both her parents to cancer, helped organise a fashion show for the group and also arranged for bra manufacturer Anita to make 50 bespoke bras for the charity’s shop, Lavender Lingerie, at Beechwood House.

The shop specialises in bras and other clothing for women who have had breast cancer.

The two women were then also treated to a trip to Austria, to visit the Anita factory.

Series producer Simon Proctor, who helped to choose the group for the programme, said: “We were inspired at how, as a small charity, the group has made such a big difference.”

Mrs Smith said: “It was completely unexpected, but it was a lovely day and they were very kind to us.”

The episode will be aired at 7.30pm.
