AN Ebbw Vale man is running up to 50 miles a week to prepare for next year’s London Marathon in aid of a charity that supports his brother.
Matthew Chaney, 20, from Cwm, will attempt the 26 miles race next April to raise cash for Mencap.
The charity has supported Mr Chaney’s 17-year-old brother Daniel, who is autistic and has severe learning difficulties.
Mr Chaney ran the marathon in April this year for the Autistic Society, raising £2,300, but is hoping to beat that target next year by raising £2,500 for Mencap.
He said the help Mencap has given Daniel, who goes to Pen-y-Cwm Special School, was his main motivation.
“They’ve made a big difference,”
he said. “They’ve helped his speech an awful lot. We used to get very frustrated, but they taught him sign language so he can understand everything you say to him and he can get his message across.”
Mr Chaney will run the London Marathon on April 22 next year.
