in terrorism, a court was told.

Nine men – including three from Wales – admitted various terror offences at Woolwich Crown Court in connection with a plot to send mail bombs to high-profile targets in 2010. Their three-day sentencing hearing started yesterday.

Mohammed Chowdhury, 21, described as the “lynchpin”, London accomplice Shah Rahman, 28, together with Cardiff brothers Gurukanth Desai, 30, of Albert Street, and Abdul Miah, 25, of Ninian Park Road, admitted preparing for acts of terrorism by planning to plant an improvised explosive device in the toilets of the London Stock Exchange. Omar Latif, 28, of Neville Street, Cardiff, admitted attending meetings with the intention of assisting others to prepare or commit acts of terrorism.

In a bid to make surveillance difficult, the would-be terrorists met to discuss the plot in parks, including Cwmcarn Forest Drive on December 12 2010.

The sentencing will continue today.
