A FUND to create a permanent memorial for the Very Reverend Jeremy Winston at the church he served for almost two decades has been set up.
Father Jeremy, 57, died on November 21, the day he was due to start treatment for a brain tumour, and the fund, which was set up at the end of January, has already raised around £5,000.
He was installed as the Dean of Newport Cathedral in September after serving as vicar of St Mary’s Priory Church in Abergavenny for 18 years.
The memorial will be erected in the Lewis Chapel at St Mary’s Priory Church, Abergavenny. Once a decision has been made on the type and design of a memorial, fundraisers will know how much they need to raise.
Dr George Nash, the Priory Church’s honorary archaeologist- in-residence, will publish a book of essays in Memory of Dean Jeremy, with the proceeds going to the fund.
Lord Rowe-Beddoe of Kilgetty, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan and President of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, is the fund’s chairman and the Queen’s former personal solicitor, Sir Henry Boyd-Carpenter, is vice-chairman.
● To donate to the fund, send cheques made payable to St Mary’s Priory Church, Abergavenny, to the Dean Jeremy Winston Memorial Fund, St Mary’s Vicarage, Monk Street, Abergavenny, NP7 5ND. Please gift aid if possible.
