THREE Monmouthshire police stations are set to close as part of Gwent Police’s ongoing review of all its stations.

The force is looking at stations in an ongoing review to see which ones are well-used and needed and which ones can be closed and replaced with alternatives.

In the latest round of reviews, Raglan, Usk and Tintern stations all face having the doors closed.

In all three cases, no stations have published opening hours and they are only open to the public when a police officer or a Community Support Officer (CSO) is doing administrative work in the station.

As is the case when any station comes up for review, a consultation period is held, allowing people to put their views forward, as well as local MPs and AMs and town and borough councillors.

Raglan and Tintern stations would be replaced with Police And Communities Together (PACT) meetings and surgeries as well as using a mobile police station.

In Usk, the plan is for police to share premises with Usk Town Council at the Sessions House.

A suggestion to relocate officers in Tintern to the Monmouthshire council- owned railway station was looked into but as it is isolated on the outskirts of the village with no heating or toilets, police rejected it. A report on the closures, presented to Gwent Police Authority, did not set out a timetable for the closures.
