A NEW drama club is in place at Coleg Gwent’s Cross Keys campus and now working towards its first production.

Independent living skills students have been learning performing art skills with the help of the club.

The drama club is run on a voluntary basis and in partnership with the Education Through Restoration project at the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre in Rogerstone.

Its production in April will be based on the work they have been doing through the Fourteen Locks Project.

They are currently painting mural backgrounds for the production and recently won £300 worth of funding from a volunteering organisation which will be spent on mural materials and costumes.

Tutor Victoria English said: “The project will benefit the students through being able to participate in a real drama production which very few would be able to access mainstream.”

Tom Maloney, from the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre, said: “Students and staff have really taken all aspects of the canal – its history, environment and future – to their hearts.

“We’re really grateful for their hard work and support and look forward to their production.”
