THE girlfriend of a man accused of murdering a Newport father denied adding to her evidence to support her boyfriend yesterday.

Karl Drummond, 37, of Attlee Court, Shahid Rafiq, 37, of Bryn-yr-Ysgol and George Glover, 40, of Graham Court, all Caerphilly, are on trial at Cardiff Crown Court charged with murdering and conspiring to rob drug dealer Tony Singh, 24, on November 11, 2010. All deny the charges.

Nina Sayer, Drummond’s girlfriend was being cross examined by Rafiq’s barrister Ian Murphy QC.

Mr Murphy pointed out evidence Miss Sayer had given in court which had not been made in her police witness statement but which matched a defence statement made by Drummond. This included that she had been told Rafiq had hit the drug dealer they met on November 11, 2010, and that Drummond had returned that evening with a red mark on his nose.

Mr Murphy said: “I suggest that you are standing shoulder to shoulder with Karl Drummond to deceive the jury and give an account that puts Shahid Rafiq in trouble.”

Miss Sayer denied this.
