A VALLEYS man was fined £230 for allowing his staff to sell alcohol to an underage teenager.

Julian Evans, 47, of Market Street, Blaenavon, pleaded guilty to the offence by post at Abergavenny Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard Evans allowed alcohol to be sold to a test purchase volunteer at the town’s Castle Hotel.

He had previously been visited by officers from Torfaen trading standards, licensing and Gwent Police to offer help and guidance to comply with the law but was still found to be selling to under 18s.

The investigations were part of an on-going programme aimed at tackling the problemin Torfaen.

As well as the fine, Evans was ordered to pay £200 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Cllr Gwyneira Clark, executivememberfor housing, planning and public protection said the case served as a warning to others that suchoffences would not be tolerated.
