NEWPORT-BORN Stoke City manager, Tony Pulis, escaped a driving ban after reaching 15 points on his licence.

Pulis, 54, who was born in Pill, was caught driving his BMW over the speed limit of 60 mph on the M42 in Warwickshire on November 6 last year.

The former Newport County player was facing a ban at Monday’s hearing at Leamington SpaMagistrates’ Court, after totting up 15 points on his licence Leamington Spa Magistrates’ Court confirmed Pulis pleaded guilty to one offence of driving a motorcar at a speed exceeding 60mph.

Court records state he was spared disqualification due to “exceptional hardship”.

They continue: “The unusual nature of business and the necessity of confidentiality precluded any other alternative to Mr Pulis retaining his licence.

“Exceptional harm would be caused to the business and others if he was disqualified.”

Pulis, of Poole, Dorset, was fined £2,500 and was made to pay £100 court costs.

He also received six penalty points on his licence.

Both Pulis and his solicitor failed to respond to the Argus’ requests for comments.
