THREE Newport men will be putting their stamina and strength to the test in a 36-hour gym session in memory of a friend who died from cancer.

Earl Palmer, 34, of Corporation Road; Lewis Grant, 21, of Bettws, and Paul Roberts, 31, of Rogerstone, will take on the challenge along with Anthony Thomas, 27, of Cardiff, on the weekend of March 31 to April 1.

The group will be raising funds for St David’s Foundation in memory of their friend Steve Lewis.

Mr Lewis died in December last year, aged 31, from stomach cancer.

The event will take place at the Newport Active Living Centre, Bettws.

They will constantly train for 36 hours with a 15-minute toilet and food break every three hours.

They plan to complete two marathons on the treadmill as well as cycling four marathon distances and will use all other machines and free weights.

Mr Palmer said: “The way Steve dealt with the news of his diagnosis and the way that he kept fighting and living was an inspiration to all.

“St David’s Foundation was great to Steve, (who was) a close friend, and his wife Angela and their family and we wanted to do our bit to help raise some money for this fantastic charity”.
