A PONTYPOOL cyclist is embarking on a 500-miles around- Wales ride in order to raise much-needed funds for Tenovus, Wales’ leading cancer charity.
Kevin Weaver, who runs the Neighbourhood learning centre in Penygarn, is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Tenovus during his 569-mile bike ride, which will begin today and will see Mr Weaver cycle up to Anglesey in North Wales, back down to West Wales, passing through Carmarthenshire, before finally finishing in his home town, Pontypool, on May 15.
Mr Weaver said: “I have recently had the sad news that three friends have been diagnosed with cancer, and after speaking with a close friend, Terry Richards, who received treatment on the Tenovus Mobile Cancer Support Unit after his bowel cancer diagnosis in 2010, it really hit home how the support that Tenovus offers to those who are affected by the disease is needed.”
Mr Weaver will visit the 22 civic centres during his challenge, with mayors from across Wales offering their support.
