DAVID Cameron is to blame for the Tories’ loss of control of Monmouthshire council on the May 3 elections, it was claimed last night.
Chairman of the Monmouth Conservative Association Roy Garner, said Monmouthshire Tories were ‘nobbled’ by Westminister.
Mr Garner backed comments by Monmouth MP David Davies, in a letter reported exclusively by the Argus yesterday.
Mr Davies attacked the Tory-led coalition over ‘incompetence at the highest levels of government’.
When asked whether he blames Mr Cameron for the loss of Tory control in Monmouthshire, Mr Garner said: “I’m afraid I have to.”
“Mr Davies has my full support and certainly the reaction on the doorstep was not against what he’s saying.”
A spokesman for the Conservative party said Mr Davies was well-known for not always agreeing with the leadership and that the government was ‘taking tough, long-term decisions to restore our country to strength’.
