The world-class Welsh Proms make a return to Cardiff this month, bringing the best in live music from around the country to the Welsh capital.

This year’s festival, which starts on July 21, offers 22 events over seven days, including full-scale orchestral proms, a packed fringe programme with an array of different musical genres and the annual Tiddly and Family Proms for music lovers of all ages.

There are six orchestral proms in total, including an opening night Family Prom from Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, hosted by Aled Jones with a theme of Magic, Myths & Legends.

There will be a Hall of Fame Prom on Sunday July 22 from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, offering classics by Wagner, Bizet, Elgar, Sibelius and many more.

The Royal Philhar-monic Orchestra will make a welcome return with the Tchaikovsky Prom on July 25, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Prom on July 26, including performances by soloists Nicola Benedetti, Chloe Hanslip and Lesley Garrett.

On The Cory Band return by popular demand, following their hugely popular appearance last year, in the Brass & Voices Prom on July 24. They will be joined by the Morriston Orpheus Choir and Pontarddulais Male Choir.

The Orchestra of Welsh National Opera will perform this year’s finale in a stunning Last Night of the Welsh Proms which will also celebrate conductor and artistic director of the Welsh Proms Owain Arwel Hughes’s 70th birthday.

The hugely popular Tiddly Prom returns especially for young children, with Bert’s Magical Musical Kitchen, daily at 10.30am.

The Welsh Proms also offers free live music as well as the Fringe Festival, which includes performances this year by Flook, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, the Siren Sisters, Wonderbrass, Top Shelf Jazz and more.

Ticketed events start from as little as £5.50. There are a limited number of Platinum Tickets available at selected performances whereby customers are guaranteed the best seats in the house and a glass of Pimms.
