Awen at Caerphilly Castle is part of Cauldrons & Furnaces, which is a series of eight events taking place at Cadw sites across Wales as part of the Welsh Government’s Cultural Olympiad celebrations.
Awen (a Welsh word for poetic inspiration) is a three-day celebration of poetic inspiration through sculpture, film, dance, music and drama – all created by the people of Caerphilly County Borough.
The event will be hosted by Caerphilly Castle from July 11-13, just prior to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The castle site is the backdrop and inspiration for a wealth of artworks: from felt reimaginings of its heraldic past, to interpretations of ancient history and forgotten myths, not forgetting the part the castle plays in our lives today. Exhibitions and installations are open during normal Caerphilly Castle opening hours and normal admission applies. The performances start at 6.30pm (doors open at 6pm) each day.
