A DIALYSIS patient from Abergavenny completed a 2,000-mile journey in a classic car to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Martin Dutson, 48, of Hereford Road, drove from Land’s End, Cornwall, to John O’Groats in Scotland, while on dialysis last month.

Mr Dutson, who restored his 1965 Morris Minor Saloon for the challenge, had a kidney removed aged four and began dialysis in August of last year after his remaining kidney deteriorated.

He is on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, which uses a bag to carry out dialysis four times without having to go to hospital.

His week-long trip raised funds for the Wales Kidney Patients’ Association – a group run by patients for patients.

Mr Dutson, his partner Helen Mason and fellow Morris Minor supporter Arwel Hopkins completed the trip in nine days.

He said: “It all went to plan and I’m really pleased we did it.It’s a great achievement and has raised much-needed funds for the association.”
