THE Welsh A-Level pass rate for grades rose slightly on the year before – but top A* and A grades dipped.
Figures from the Welsh Govrnment show 97.6 per cent of entries in 2012 achieved A* to E, 0.4 per cent up on last year.
But 6 per cent got A*s while 23.6 per cent got A*-As – both results are down 0.3 per cent.
The dip is part of a UK trend, however, with similar falls seen in the rest of England and Northern Ireland.
The percentage of A*-B passes rose by 0.7 per cent to 49.9 per cent, while A*-Cs rose by 0.9 per cent to 75 per cent.
The number of entrants this year was 37,150, down by 1.9 per cent.
