TORFAEN students are celebrating achieving top A-level results today.

Nearly 98% (97.9%) of pupils gained A*-E A-level grades, up from 96.5 per cent last year. This is above the Wales figure of 97.6 per cent.

The percentage of pupils gaining A*/A grades in Torfaen increased from 22.6 per cent last year to 23.6 per cent this year. This matches the Wales figure of 23.6 per cent, although the Wales figure has decreased from last year’s 23.9 per cent.

At AS-level, the percentage of gaining A-E grades in Torfaen has decreased from 89.4 per cent last year to 86.4 per cent this year. This matches the Wales figure of 86.4 per cent, which decreased slightly from 86.8 per cent last year.

The executive member for children and young people, councillor Mary Barnett, said: “These are fantastic results, which are a tribute to the hard work of students, their families and their teachers in our schools.

“These pass rates continue to show that every young person matters in our schools and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with our schools over the coming year to build on these results."
