THE WAWWA summer concert will be taking place on Friday, August 31, at 7.30pm, in Llanyravon Social Centre.

This concert is to raise funds for one of its members, Samantha Jones, who has obtained a place at the prestigious East 15 Acting School in London. Sam has been with WAWWA for some time and, since receiving news about East 15, the society and her friends and family have rallied to raise funds with her, from bag packing to singing. Tickets are £7, and there will also be a raffle and buffet.

Sam recently won a Gwent Drama League Award for her portrayal of Grizabella the Glamour Cat, receiving her trophy for Best Theatrical Moment of the Year.

WAWWA has sent many students off to top performance colleges and institutes.

Many have also secured professional work around the world.

One of their latest successes, Rhiannon Sarah Porter, was part of the cast of the national tour of Les Misérables, in which she appeared as Eponyne.

The directorial team, co-directors Jay Coleman and Andre-Paul Spring, musical director Victoria Bryant and choreographer Ben Hurley, have created a very special group of young performers.

The cast will be looking forward to performing of one of the great comic masterpieces of musical theatre, Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, in the autumn at the Dolman Theatre, Newport.
