A MAN has been ordered to pay £215 after he dropped litter on a Valleys street, according to Caerphilly council.

Ian Rogers, of Clos y Goren, Pontllanfraith, was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £75 after he discarded a cigarette butt from the driver's window of his vehicle on Highfield Way, Blackwood, the council said.

After he failed to pay the fixed penalty notice, the matter was pursued through the courts.

The case was heard at Abergavenny Magistrates Court on August 20, and the case was proved in his absence.

He was given a fine of £100, ordered to pay £100 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge, the council said.

Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: "Littering in any way is unacceptable, and people who show a blatant disregard for their surrounding environment will receive a fixed penalty notice."
