A PUB landlord team has mopped the floor with the competition, after claiming a fifth straight win in Gwent’s Best Kept Pub competition.
Sarah McDonald and Gary Webb, who run the Rose Inn at Redwick, said claiming the award, which is run by the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, was “wonderful” if a little bit embarrassing for the fifth year.
Mr Webb, who has co-run the pub with Ms McDonald for seven years, said the key to their success was constantly striving to maintain the best standards they can.
He, said: “You just try your best to look after your pub.
We encourage the staff to make sure they are cleaning when they aren’t serving, and we take great pride in the appearance of the children’s playground and seating area.”
When asked what the pub’s secret to success was Mr Webb said he didn’t really know but that they tried to make it appealing for people to come in.
In fact it appears he will be so busy keeping up appearances that he says he won’t even have time to have a quick half to celebrate the pub’s win.
