Admiral Group, which has a base in Newport, has been named the second best big company to work for in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list.

Admiral is the only UK company which has made the Sunday Times List every year since it began in 2001.

The firm employs more than 900 across a variety of roles at it's Newport office in Queensway, which was opened in 2014.

Admiral’s CEO David Stevens said: "We are over the moon to have placed second in the list. Our position is based on what our employees think about working for Admiral which makes it very gratifying to score so highly. Everyone here works very hard to make Admiral the success it is and we want to make coming to work as enjoyable and re-warding as possible.”

Admiral also won a special award for discovering potential. This is only the second year this award has been given and it is for their work with the Princes Trust.

Admiral, which is the main sponsors of the City of Newport half marathon, which takes place on Sunday, March 5, works closely with the charity on projects such as “Get into Customer Service”, which provides training to local job seekers aged 16-24. The local employer has raised half a million pounds for the Princes Trust over the past five years.

David Stevens won the Best Leader award coming first in the Leadership category for big companies. This is the fourth year in a row Admiral’s CEO has won in this category, with Henry Engelhardt named Best Leader in the previous three years.

The number one best big company was the Sytner Group, which is based in Leicester and has 140 dealerships across the UK, including one in Newport selling BMW and Mini.
