A Gwent business is sponsoring a photographic competition, which is giving entrants the chance to wall space at its Pontypool property and also at St David’s Hospice in Newport.

The photographic competition, which is open to all, is being sponsored by Pontypool-based Johnsey Estates UK Ltd, owners of Pontypool’s Mamhilad Park Estate.

The competition is supporting the South Wales Argus 125 Appeal in aid of St David's Hospice Care and the theme is ‘heritage’

James Crawford, chief executive officer of competition organisers JEUK, said: “The photographs can be of anything associated with the theme of heritage. For example they could be of an historical industrial structure, an old factory or a historical works scene. Equally it could depict people who represent heritage, for example school friends or family members. The list is endless but also might include old vehicles, sport or even wildlife. The choice is yours.”

He said: “We supported St David’s Hospice Care last year when JEUK was main sponsor of the Pontypool 10k event. We are delighted to be doing so again this year. We are aware of the Argus 125 appeal in aid of St David’s Hospice Care and wondered how we could get involved.

“We have recently been refurbishing a lot of old buildings here at Mamhilad and as a result have ended up with large areas of blank white walls. We thought it would be a nice idea to fill the walls with some good photography. I can’t wait to see what people come up with.”

South Wales Argus editor Nicole Garnon said: “I continue to be amazed at the ingenuity and variety of events that people have come up with in support of our 125 Appeal.”

Emma Saysell, chief executive at St David’s Hospice Care, said: “I am thrilled that Johnsey Estates decided to stage this competition for the South Wales Argus 125 appeal in aid of St David’s Hospice Care.”

Winners and some other entrants may have their photographs displayed on walls at JEUK in Mamhilad Park Estate and also at St David’s Hospice Care’s new 15-bed in-patient facility being completed in Malpas, Newport.
