A Caerphilly-based IT firm has invested heavily in education for its employees as part of its growth plans to triple in size across the next three years.

Team Metalogic was founded in 2003 by Mike Parfitt and 15 years on, the team has grown substantially with the business launching its own telecoms division this year.

As part of the growth plans, three members of the team, including Mr Parfitt, have started external education courses to help develop their leadership and knowledge.

Mike and Paul Thomas, senior business development manager, have started the 20Twenty Leading Business Growth Programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University’s School of Management.

Liam Torrance, service desk manager, has started the Upskilling@Work programme.

Mike said: “Finding the right people with the relevant skill-set has been difficult at times, so when we have the opportunity to develop talent then we need to do so.

"We have a team brimming with people with the right attitude so it is vital we continually develop to expand our knowledge and understanding of our business, the sectors we work in as well as management and leadership.”

The 20Twenty Leading Business Growth Programme is aimed at leaders who want to improve their capabilities, innovate and achieve profitable, accelerated and sustainable business growth.

Paul said: “I am really enjoying it and it is just what I need in my life right now and is hugely motivating. We are making the most of it and will apply it to the business in order to help us achieve our grand plans.”

Mike said: “These courses will really help us realise our potential and get us on our way towards our goal of tripling in size by 2021.”

Liam’s course, Upskilling@Work, is supported by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government. It is a pan-Wales operation designed to enhance skills and increase productivity in the workplace, providing opportunities for employers to gain accredited qualifications for their workforce.

Liam said: “The course is bespoke to my needs and the requirements of the business, which is very practical when applying the learning.

"It feels as though the course has had a positive impact on my work almost instantly and I am really grateful for the opportunity to help the future of Team Metalogic as well as my own professional development.”
