COUNCILLORS in Caerphilly have been paying their respects to Labour councillor Stan Jenkins, who died on Monday, aged 67.
Mr Jenkins, who was a long-standing member for Risca East and lived in Ty Sign for 30 years, was described as a pillar of the community by council leader Harry Andrews.
“Stan was dedicated to promoting the interests of his community and the people of Risca,” said Cllr Andrews.
“His sad death is a major blow and we have lost a friend, colleague and a great ambassador for the Caerphilly county borough.
“Our thoughts are very much with his wife, Maureen, and his family during this very difficult time.”
Mr Jenkins was a former member and mayor of Islwyn Borough Council and past chairman of Caerphilly council’s planning committee.
He dedicated a great deal of his time to the refurbishment of the Risca section of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal, and was a valued fundraiser and supporter of the Royal British Legion.
The funeral arrangements are confirmed as 1pm on Thursday, January 31, at the Moriah Baptist Chapel, Risca, and then at Thornhill crematorium, Cardiff, followed by refreshments at the Top Club, Risca.
