GOLFING stars of the future took part in their own version of the Ryder Cup at Caerleon Golf Club yesterday.
The youngsters from across Newport, all aged between eight and 14 competed in chipping, putting and a nine hole competition.
It took place on the academy course, that was funded by the Ryder Cup Legacy Fund and opened in May by Welsh golfer Ian Woosnam.
Just like Europe will soon take on the USA at the Celtic Manor down the road, the youngsters represented the sides from either side of the atlantic.
In the morning session, those from Alway, Maesglas, Pill and Somerton competed as Europe and those from Gaer, Moorland, Ringland and Caerleon represented the USA.
In the afternoon, Europe was represented by St Julians, Bettws and Shaftesbury children and the USA by those from Underwood, Maindee and Duffryn.
For youngsters who didn't take part, there will be an open day at the course on Saturday, September 25.
