DURING the recent bad weather, January 22/3, nursing staff at Ysbyty Fawr Hospital, Ystrad Mynach, were expected to arrive at the hospital for their early morning shift without using their own vehicles or public transport. Staff from Blackwood and Oakdale areas, and beyond, had to walk to the hospital.
There is no vehicle at Ysbyty Fawr available to assist, apparently. On the same days, television highlighted that the Peters Savoury Products factory at Bedwas had such a vehicle available and collected employees from various areas to ensure production continued.
It is said that comparisons are invidious, but is it not high time that the hospital administration and the Aneurin Bevan Heath Board consider this matter and recognise that nursing staff are an extremely vital part of the community?
