HOW disappointing! No-one, but no-one has written in support of Mr Johnston’s comments regarding the ‘policing minister’s’ fast- track entry plans. The new commissioner sums up this situation perfectly. Those who are running, and so called ‘managing’ British industries in the broadest terms, have no idea of the complexities or detail of processes for which they are responsible. They have not been there. They have not done it. They rely upon the principle that “you don’t have to understand a system to manage it” – rubbish! These people therefore cannot understand the consequences of their decisions.

Declan Curry, a financial broadcaster, a few years ago interviewed a Danish businessman. His comments were along the lines of: In Denmark we have engineering firms with engineers in charge, we have building firms with builders in charge; in Britain you have accountants in charge, eg, those who know the cost of everything, and value of very little. Someone somewhere needs to listen to those like Mr Johnston, who have spent time – there at the ‘face’ and understand what is going on. No point in saying “Yes Minister” when neither side understands the effect(s) of “yes, uh, um minister”.
