THANK YOU for publishing my letter, which was designed to thank everyone who has helped the club restore league football to Newport.

As I said, they are so numerous they would fill Bisley Stand. I did mention all directors, past and present, and all sponsors, large and small, but on reflection I should have mentioned Matt Southall, Wallace Brown, John Williams, Colin Everett, Mike Everett and Rob Santwris. I apologise for the omissions.
The club needs all the support it can get. Everyone’s help will be welcomed and the invitation to join the club committee remains open. If we all work together there is nothing we cannot achieve.
Talking of the club committee, I left out the subscription draw, a small but important support group which has raised more than £80,000 for the club and returned more than £55,000 to members in prizes.
As far as the club name is concerned, I have never suggested that Newport County AFC should be quoted in full every time. I have talked about “the County” for as long as I have been able to abuse referees and linesmen! However, although we can make history we cannot re-write it: Newport County is the past; Newport County AFC is the present and the future. Up the County!
David Hando, President Newport County AFC
