RE “Relief road is all about Cardiff” (July 2), from Mr Hoare, Llangynidr. I cannot agree with Mr Hoare, and would also assume that many people living in Cwmbran, Newport and Caerleon also disagree with him.
When there is an accident on the M4, traffic can be grid-locked back to Llantarnam. I am sure people living in Newport and Caerleon have also experienced this. People need to be able to get to their place of work, whether it is Newport or Swindon, or Cardiff. A grid-lock means “no movement”, and that includes no bus movement either.
Accidents on the M4 are detrimental to our economy and cause chaos on its outer perimeters. Any relief road that by-passes Newport (and the Brynglas tunnels) is completely necessary, not just to get to Newport but anywhere else for that matter.
