SEVERAL issues have arisen recently that show the need for the transfer of powers to a Minister of Justice in the Welsh Government.
The unneeded and unwanted elected Police and Crime Commissioners have set up expensive offices to employ their cronies on absurd salaries. One of them has set about getting rid of a chief constable for dubious reasons.
These supernumerary posts and offices should be abolished and their responsibilities transferred to a Minister answerable to the Welsh Government and people. The English Government has decided to build a U.S. style mega jail in Wrexham. A jail that will import yet more criminals into Wales from North West England, people we do not need or want here.
A Minister of Justice for Wales could build a number of smaller manageable jails for women and youths as well as male prisoners. Let prisoners stay near their families so their rehabilitation is aided. The practice of moving prisoners across the border should end. I am amazed human rights lawyers have not stopped this .
The four police forces should be combined into one National Police Service to end waste and duplication. It is no good having London Government in charge of these matters in Wales.
