I THINK it indicative of the values of our leaders have in relation to today’s society when an Olympic Gold medal winner equals Knighthood, M.B.E. etc, waiting time, a month or two.

Russian convoy sailors working 24 hours, day after day in the worst possible conditions imaginable, with the threat of imminent, horrible death, a belated medal, waiting time, SEVENTY YEARS!
(Sir) Matthew Pinset is reputed to have said on the subject of sporting honours... “Simple rule of thumb - you get a gong if you win”.
The arctic sailors were in the winning team. Why were their sacrifices not recognised then, and a medal issued at the time, as every other theatre of war had?
