SHAUN McGuire’s letter on organ donating was spot on. Organs are in short supply in Britain, so why are so many sold to rich foreigners. That’s not why people donate. Why are people flying here from countries where nobody donates organs and other EU countries where they pay privately for our very much needed organs?
Nobody has been allowed to speak out against this Bill at any meetings. Why? Many good stories are publicised about people who have had transplants.
Sadly, many die waiting. Organ donating is vital, but not like this. People have been declared brain-dead, only to wake up just before organs were removed for transplant.
Dr Srivas Chennu of Cambridge University states that tests are not always conclusive. It’s left to staff to decide; obviously, and sadly, they’re not always right. To stop any accidental removal of organs, inform all hospital staff if you’ve opted out. I have many friends and a large family all opting out. Life supports should be kept on unless families say otherwise, not the Government or hospital.
