I HAVE long pondered the fate of the “‘Twiggy Men”’, those long-lamented denizens of Newport’s roundabouts during the not-so-lamented Ryder Cup. Monday’s article made it clear, they have been claiming sanctuary at Greenmeadow Golf Club.
I do hope the club committee is aware of the dangers of their action. allowing such topiary to flourishmight be all very well but even with the pin-point pruning it is extremely difficult to curtail the amorous proclivities of a twiggy man. Who knows, it might be of a vegetative nature and if so, there is not one shred of evidence regarding the period of germination.
Are we to be endangered by wave after wave of a new generation of the arboreal menace? And should every household be provided with an adequate supply of weed killer, and will Sir Terry Matthews foot the bill?
