NEARLY 18 months ago I expressed concern about the accident waiting to happen as pedestrians try to cross the busy road between the Tesco store site and Marks and Spencer at Newport Retail Park at Spytty. The council told me then that it shared my concern and were in discussion with the developer regarding the works required to improve this road standard.
One of the main points of their discussion was the need to provide dedicated pedestrian crossing facilities between the Retail Park side and Tesco. The council said it was not prepared to consider the adoption of this road until such facilities were provided by the developer. Another year has passed, and as the recent accidents at Kingsway in Swansea have shown, early positive action can avoid future tragedies.
