NEWPORT Friends of the Earth are very concerned about fracking. This is the risky and highly controversial technique of injecting water and dangerous chemicals at high pressure underground to release shale gas.
There are many concerns with this process including the safety of the chemicals used in the process and the risk of these entering the local environment around fracking wells including into water courses, air pollution from increased lorry movements, decreasing house prices and crucially increased climate change gas emissions. Interestingly even the boss of fracking company Cuadrilla has said that fracking wouldn’t reduce gas prices in the UK.
It is another fossil fuel that should be left in the ground.
Newport Friends of the Earth would like to see Newport council follow the lead of the Welsh Government in declaring a moratorium on fracking in Newport. If you agree with us please support our campaign by signing our petition at https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ban-fracking-and-extraction-of-unconventional-gas-in-newport
Fracking isn’t needed and it isn’t wanted. If you would like to get involved and help our campaigns please contact Bleddyn Lake at bleddyn.lake@foe.co.uk
