COULD someone who works for Caerphilly or Blaenau Gwent councils tell their bosses they forgot to push the lighting up times back when the clocks went back at the end of October?
It means when I cycle home from work just after midnight from Newport to Abertillery most of my ride is in darkness whereas a month ago it was lit up by the street lamps.
I realise the council is trying to save money but I believe they also have a responsibility for people’s safety.
Unfortunately most of the bicycle lamps on the market are not anywhere near as strong as car lights, which means I have to be especially vigilant for potholes and manhole covers etc while I ride along.
If the worst happens and I’m involved in a serious accident I think the councils may find the savings they make on their lighting budget are cancelled out by the cost of a fatal accident investigation.
