WHAT a load of rubbish being talked about the use of drones and especially by one of our local politicians.
I have been making and flying model aircraft for 62 years now, including radio control flying for 46 of those years.
I’ve entered many competitions and in 1974 I built my own hang glider, perhaps the first in Wales, and launched myself off Machen mountain.
Because the eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be I now fly drones and for anybody to say that these could be used by terrorists or for similar use show that they are talking out of the wrong end of their body.
Yes many carry cameras but I suggest that everyone should look at the photos they take and see if they infringe anyone else’s privacy, because it would be very difficult to identify any person from a drone photo.
Just to add, the publicity surrounding a drone colliding with an aircraft landing at London’s Heathrow Airport recently turned out to be a plastic bag, but they didn’t publicise that as much.
Personally I would be more concerned about a pilot who was gazing out of a window when landing instead of watching the instruments and runway ahead.
