AN ARTICLE in The Argus: “Only the most serious allegations of criminal activity by businesses in Newport relating to environment health and trading standards are to be fully investigated and some lower-risk accusations will not be looked into at all”.
The cuts are being made to save £110,000 and include scrapping free advice for businesses on complying with trading standards regulations and routine testing of swimming pool water.
Now I read in my Argus: “Plans which could give businesses in Newport legal right to advice and support from the council could get the go-ahead”. Through the program businesses will be able to form formal partnerships with the council which will entitle them to formal advice.
I appreciate businesses probably donate more to the council coffers than rate paying voters but who are the council in place to advise and protect.
Not it would seem the residential community.
Final thought, conflict of interest. I presume none of the companies in partnership have been, are or will be engaged on council services?
